BitDefender released a "update" today to their antivirus software that effective stopped my productivity in its tracks. After receiving a notice that
BitDefender has blocked a virus affecting your computer!
Virus Name:
Trojan.Generic.1607990
Location:
C:UsersChrisAppDataLocalTemp
7zSDC3.tmpnonlocalizednssutil3.dll
After receiving this notice, Firefox 3 proceeded to crash:
I attempted to call BitDefender Tech Support. After waiting on hold for 20 minutes, the line began to ring. When nobody picked up after about 5 minutes of ringing, my call had dropped into "a call waiting black hole".
I attempted to call BitDefender a second time. Again, I waited on hold for roughly 20 minutes before dropping into a call waiting black hole. This was followed by two more attempts to reach tech support via phone and two attempts to email them.
After waiting almost an hour for a response from what BitDefender deems "Live" support, both email and phone, I decided to give up.
I should mention that my BitDefender license is two days from expiring. I will not be renewing. However, even though I attempted to cancel the unauthorized auto-renewal of my BitDefender purchase through DigitalRiver.com, they still attempted to auto-renew it. I guess it's a good thing I changed credit cards a while back and they were unsuccessful at helping themselves to my money.
