Cellphone Fishing

I recently went tubing with my old Nokia cellphone. This gave me the perfect opportunity to upgrade my old phone with a new, Samsung BlackJack.

When my wife and I upgraded our phones last time, I decided that I was tired of having the newest phone on the block, and since I never use the camera on my cellphone, I went for the cheapest, feature-less Nokia in the store. I served me well for about 8 months, until I went tubing with it in my pocket.

So last Monday I went into the Cingular store to pickup a new phone. The sales rep said there was nothing they could do to help me and I would need to purchase a phone at full price. I decided to try and locate an unlocked phone on ebay. On my way out, the rep decided to work a deal with me, so I ended up with the Samsung BlackJack for $200.

The key selling point. Tethering. With a few simple clicks, I can link my laptop and phone, and connect the laptop to the internet via the 3G cellular connection. The phone still functions normally, and only interrupts the laptop when someone calls. This feature alone makes the phone worth the $50 it costs to buy an aircard.

I ended up purchasing the $39.99/mo unlimited data package. I can already see the stockholders of AT&T crying with the amount of data I download over my BlackJack.

Overall it has been a great phone. I had to install the Good software to get linked with Exchange, and it caused the most problems with the phone. Good causes it to crash at least once a day.
