I just received my state vehicle tax bill in the mail. I've can't for the life of my understand how it can not be double taxation to issue a state property tax on an item that I have already paid sales tax on, and pay the yearly "safety inspection"? tax.
Double taxation as explained on wikipedia.org is "Double taxation is a situation in which two or more taxes may need to be paid for the same asset, financial transaction and arises due to overlap between different countries' tax laws and jurisdictions."?
So if I am being taxed on the same asset (my car) when I purchase it, then again every year, isn"™t that the collection of multiple taxes on the same asset.
Just another example of why we should switch to the Fair Tax.
