Firefox Extensions

I'm sure by now everyone knows what the Firefox browser is. If you don't know what it is, check it out at www.getfirefox.com. Firefox is a great replacement to Microsoft's Internet Explorer. In addition to tabbed browsing, Firefox has the ability to add extensions, or small scripts to the browser. This allows for programmers to easily create add-ons for the browser.

Since I am a web developer, I continually look at web pages all day long. In an effort to make my job easier, I have tracked down some of the more useful Firefox extensions out there.

ColorZilla gives the user the ability to use an eyedropper tool inside the browser. This means that you can easily get the hex code for a specific color without having to search through the source code. It also give the X and Y coordinates, but they seem to be from the bottom left corner of the browser and not the top left and it gives the div tags of the area the mouse is hovering over.

MeasureIt is an extension that allows the user to measure areas on the browser window. This is great for seeing how the page will display in 800x600 if you don't use that resolution, or making sure the left column of you layout hasn't pushed past it's mark.

Web Developer is the granddaddy of all the web developer Firefox extensions. It allows you to highlight table cells, tables, divs, get div names and information, change the display size of the page, and many, many more things.

If you do any type of web development then plan on installing these extensions as they have helped me make my day for productive by allowing me easy access to web page information.
