I would like to first say that no words can be used to describe the amount of...sorrow for the events in the gulf coast area. It is extremely hard to wrap my brain around the idea of lossing everything, your home, your church, your business's building, your dentist's office, everything.
Now, I have to say that I am extremely unproud of some of the happenings in the devistated areas over the past week. Rarely has there even been a time in my life that I have a hard time being proud of being an American. But it's not only the looters and vandals that make me aggrivated. I have read numerous news articles that have a slight racial undertone. Read this or this. I find it very disappointing that anyone in an educated society could think that President Bush could cause a category 5 hurricane to strike New Orleans and then think that he could cause the leeves to break and flood New Orleans.
It seems to me that the government shouldn't be required to force people to leave a city that is below sea level and that is about to be struck by a massive hurricane. If you had no way to leave that is one story, but if you decided to stay, well, most people would call that stupidity culling the herd, or natural selection.
As I said at the beginning, I can't gather the right words to describe amazing amount of human suffering, but I feel a large amount of rage towards looters, vandals, and those that can't take responsibility for their choices. If you don't have anything nice to say about those that have come to help/rescue you, then stop drinking their donated water and eatting their donated food, and go sleep in your "home." Flame me if you want, but sorry to say, Whitey's not responsible for natural disasters, looters, or vandals.
Oh, and to the politicians that are bashing President Bush for "sluggish" response times. Here's and idea, get of your damn high white horse and lend a hand. It's always easy to say it would be easy to walk in someone else's shoes. Well, guess what, you didn't win a Presidential election, so until you do, be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
