My day in court.

Today was my court date for the ticket I received on July 17, 2005 for "Driving the wrong way on a divided lane highway" which is known as G.S. 20-146 in North Carolina.

I got the ticket making a left hand turn into a parking lot after getting a little lost. I will upload pictures of the intersection later.

At my first court appearance(where you just tell a DA what you plan to do about the ticket) I told them I wanted to dispute it. The DA told me to be in court today at 8:30am sharp.

The judge didn't show up until 9:30am. They call roll, and out of a 160 cases, only 4 plead not guilty(me being 1 of course). So all day I sit in court listening to people try to explain why they smoked crack, or hit and ran from an accident, or other crazy junk which you see on Cops.

About 1:30pm, while the judge is talking to a defendant, the DA goes to the police officer that gave me the ticket, and has him draw a diagram on a chalkboard of the intersection where I got the ticket. They are trying to be discreet, but I can see the board. After finishing his drawing, the other officers start laughing and shaking their heads "no" at him. The DA agrees that it's not gonna happen.

Court breaks for lunch until 2:30pm. When we get back, again while the judge is dealing with another case, the DA calls me up to the bench, tells me the case is dismissed, and I am free to go.

So it just goes to show, if you didn't do anything wrong, fight for your rights, and things will work out.
